dumb question

Just bought a new computer, and want to install vb express. There is an icon in my system tray for Microsoft SQL Server Service Manager ver. 8.00.2039. Does this mean that I won't have to install SQL Server Express? I can't find anything in the Add/Remove programs that shows any version of SQL Server that was pre-installed.

thanks

richard

Hi Richard,

You have SQL Server 2000, probably MSDE. You will want to have SQL Express for tight integration with VB Express. I would go install SQL Express from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download first, then install VB Express. VB Express will offer to install SQL if it isn't already there, but it is the RTM version, not SP1.
