Duplicate Records

Hi,

Not so sure how simple this question is but here is what happened. I installed SQL Server 2005 on a new Win Server 2003. I exported the tables and their data from the old machine to the newly established database on the new machine.

It looks like all my records were duplicated. When I try to delete one of the duplicates it won't work because both rows are effected. I can't set my primary key now and if I try to create a new database with the primary key already set than the import fails.

Any one run into this before or know what's going on?

Any help ASAP would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alice

I think I might have found the answer to my question here:

http://www.sqlteam.com/item.asp?ItemID=3331

I'll try it.

Alice

I tried the SELECT DISTINCT approach and copied the records into a new table. It seemed to work, but everytime I try to create a new primary key it seems like the table creates a new duplicate record that prevents it. I'm wandering if this is something I'll need to call tech support on. Maybe something is misconfigured.

Hi,

I would suggest to refer below links also which has workaround you are reffering

Dundas CHART for Reporting Services

I'm curious to know others opinion of the Dundas Charting for Reporting
Services. I have downloaded and installed the beta and it appears to be
nice. Although I haven't had a chance to get any real reports created with
it. I like the fact that I can change the chart type while viewing the
report. Well, at least I can with VS.NET 2003.
I'm wondering if it is published to a server is the users can also change
the report type.Hi dm4714,
well, I am wanting to try it out too...I'll let you know what I
think....the beta has only been available for a week or so ... it's
pretty early...
We are looking to use RS + DotNetNuke + Dundas for RS....we felt the
charts inside 'vanilla RS' were a bit 'vanilla' and we wanted to
improve our charting with Dundas....
Best Regards
Peter Nolan
www.peternolan.com|||Hi dm4714,
well, I have my new instance of XP Pro and CTP version of SQL Server
2005 Dundas Chart Beta and I even bought a book on new 2005
features...learning as fast as I can...(LOL).
Without being an 'advertisement' I can say on first look Dundas Chart
for Report Services 2005 looks really good. I have had a small play
with it and am in the process of reading the manuals and understanding
how it actually works. In 2005 the Dundas Chart is a control that can
be placed into a form and you have complete control over the chart via
VB.net and C sharp. So, if you can code it, you can make the chart do
it...it seems.....I don't know the limitations as I have not got
there yet!!
The chart is placed onto the form and connected to dataset in similar
fashion to the MSFT chart that comes with RS2005. However, the range
of charts and the range of options is very large.....there also seems
to be some way to write pre/post rendering code in .net languages
though I am yet to figure that out....the samples allow you to control
such things as the type of chart produced based on another control so
the user can change the chart type on the fly.....
The documentation promises that the chart is drillable but I have not
yet tried (or even understood how to try) that feature...I asked
Dundas if they would publish an example of a drillable chart in dundas
in 2005 as I am keen to see how to do that.....we want the charts we
produce to be drillable...
It was not obvious at the start, but Dundas Chart for RS 2005 is a
completely separate product to Dundas Chart.
So, my feedback having read the manual for about 6 hours and gone
through all the samples is that it looks pretty good. Certainly I feel
we made a reasonable decision to wait for 2005 than try to get earlier
versions of any charts to work inside RS 2000.
I'll post again here when we have actually written some code and learn
some more......might be a few weeks...
I too would be very interested to hear anyone elses comments... :-)
Peter Nolan
www.peternolan.com|||I have spent about 2-3 weeks prototyping many different types of charts using
Dundas's SRS control and overall I am very impressed with it. I am using the
June CTP of SRS 2005. Here is my two cents worth of what I have found...
One big item that is missing is the ability to have a tooltip/hover message
on each data marker in a chart. Even though Dundas's base charts have this
functionality, Microsoft only allows ONE tooltip per control in SRS 2005. MS
says that this functionality is being limited due to security reasons and
Dundas had to disable this feature.
I would be interested where you got a book on SRS 2005 as I understand that
they have been releases to the market as of yet. Andrew Bryan at Dundas,
really great guy, is writing a book on how to create a custom control that
can be consumed in SRS2005. There is not any documentation at all on this as
of yet.
The programmability of Dundas's charts is really cool. With just a little
C# code I was able to inject my own image at each data marker on a chart. I
am currently working on trying to produce my own custom legend due to our
business requirements.
I would recommend that anyone using this control investigate the Advanced
tab. All of the really powerful stuff is in there. I do have some issues
with getting every x-axis data label to display, but this may be my problem.
I can only get them to display if I use both the primary and secondary x-axis
labels.
Performance is good and the 3D effects are done very well. My biggest
complaint is the lack of documentation and examples. Being a developer, I
like to have the nitty gritty details and all of this beta software sometimes
drives me nuts trying to get it to do what I want.

Here is a tool (free) which make charts similar to Dundas and can be
plugged
easily to sqlserver (being .NET):

.NET Developer|||Hi Keith,
the book I bought is called 'SQL Server 2005 New Features' by Michael
Otley. Senior Technical Editor SQL Server Magazine. It only has a
small section on SRS but it does cover lots and lots of the new stuff
in 2005 and there is quite a bit...after all it has been 5 years!!!
(LOL)..It's about 250 pages...I bought it because it would save me
hours and hours of flicking through other manuals and presentations
just to get the highlights of the new features...I think it's worth
getting....(I buy a lot of books.)
It seems like partitioning has been done properly in 2005...and I am
very interested/impressed with the idea that something that looks like
a stored procedure can actually be a .net programming language....I
can think of plenty of uses of such a feature.....I am trying to
figure out if I can turn 10,000 lines of SPs that I have written into
something that cannot be read, like a program...but heck, I only got
the book on the weekend....more reading to do yet...
Best Regards
Peter Nolan.|||Peter,
Thanks for the kind words and plug for my book! ... I guess I really
have to get to work on it now eh? It is expected to be released in
March.
With respect to the docs and samples, this is an area that I will be
focusing in the next couple of weeks. The docs will be a continual
work in progress but we we be getting more technical writing done soon.
For the samples, this is where you can help. If there is a particular
sample that you would like to see, let us know. We would like to get
this product's sample set as complete as our .net offerings but it will
take some time.
There will be a new beta released in Sept for the release candidate of
SQL Server 2005 so what for it ... there will be more samples in that
build.
Thanks again,
Andrew Bryan

drillable ... I would like to think that they didnt *remove* functionality
...
Right click on your chart and choose Properties. Choose the data tab ...
select one of your values and then EDIT. You will notice a series of tabs
that display ... choose the one that says ACTION and you will see "jump to
report" which is the drill - thru. Thats where it is on the OLD way ... I
hope you can find it somewhere in the vicinity on the package you are working
with. Let me know ... ok? Thanks!

it is there, the manual talks about how to do it, but it needs to be
written into the controls as .net it looks like....my problem is that
my skill level is not up to it yet!!! ;-)..I think I am just not
'there' yet.
I am not after the jump/hypelink style of drill thru, I am looking for
subsetting the data from the existing dataset.....like I said, it is
just hard for me to follow..
I have had feedback from Dundas that they will prepare an example as
part of the beta...in fact they are being great they really seem to
want to hear what people want in the product!! What a nice change for a
software vendor!!!

Dumb question: How do I view a report?

I have SSRS installed, but when I try to navigate to it via IE, I'm prompted
for my username and password even though I'm using Windows integrated
security for SQL Server. What do I need to do to create/access reports?Never mind. I'd typed in http://localhost/ReportServices$SQLSERVER2005 when
I was prompted for a username and password. I should've typed in
http://localhost/Reports$SQLSERVER2005/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx ...
As I said, it's a dumb question ... hahaha.

If you are using a browser other than IE, this may occur. If not, then
you will want to check the Directory Security (for the Reports and
ReportServer virtual directories). You do this via: Right-click My
Computer -> Select Manage -> Navigate to Services and Applications ->
Internet Information Services -> Web Sites -> Default Web Site. Then,
right-click Reports (or ReportServer) and select Properties -> select
the Directory Security tab -> select the Edit button just below
'Anonymous access and authentication control' and check to see if you
have either 'Anonymous access' selected or 'Integrated Windows
Authentication.' If anonymous is selected, most likely SSRS will not
allow you to avoid providing authentication (if it allows navigation
to the URL at all). Hope this helps.

Dual installation SQL 2005 Std. and Express

Hi everybody,
I had SQL 2005 std. edition installed and I install SQL 2005 express
after that. I have no trace of the express installation. Neither in the
add/remove program nor under \Program files directory!
Is dual installation possible?
Are files copied to the same directories?
thank you very much
sergeHi,
I found that I had to install SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE)
but it cannot be installed when SQL Server Management Studio standard
edition is already installed. How can'I remove SSMS? It does not appear in
the add/remove program. And the Microsoft warning messsage shown during the
installation of SSMSE is truncated!
thank you for your time

Yes, you can install both. The add/remove programs entry is shared. You
can selectively change/remove instances using the single entry.

The default location is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server". You will
have numbered subfolders(e.g. MSSQL.4) for instance-specific items.
Hope this helps.

instance. For example, connect to instance 'MyServer\SQLExpress'.

Dual installation SQL 2005 Std. and Express

Hi everybody,
I had SQL 2005 std. edition installed and I install SQL 2005 express
after that. I have no trace of the express installation. Neither in the
add/remove program nor under \Program files directory!
Is dual installation possible?
Are files copied to the same directories?
thank you very much
serge
Hi,
I found that I had to install SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE)
but it cannot be installed when SQL Server Management Studio standard
edition is already installed.

DTSWizard Doesnt show new ODBC data source?

I've installed SQL Express SP1 on a Windows 2003 server and I'm trying to get a new MySQL datasource to be recognized in the DTSWizard. A MySQL database needs to be moved over to a MS SQL server due to software requirements (which weren't looked at before the site was created). I've installed the ODBC Connector/MySQL software and created the System DSN (named "MySQL DB Import) in the Administrative Tools/Data Sources (ODBC) tool. When I start up the DTS wizard for SQL Express however, I do not get my new data source in the selection options for data sources.

I am following the instructions on this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2000/deploy/mysql.mspx#ERJAE

What am I missing?

It is not you missing anything the DTS you got is very limited almost a copy wizard so it is not intelligent enough to move your MySQL database, so try the link below and download the eval it is good for 6 months. Remember it is the Enterprise edition so choose all components if there is a separate folder for tools install it. So you can use SQL Server integration services. Post again if you still have question. And please try to buy the no deployment developer edition it is less than $35.00. Hope this helps.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6931fa7f-c094-49a2-a050-2d07993566ec&displaylang=en

It may be that the full SQL Integration Services are dumbed down in the evaluation too. The DTS tool in the evaluation edition wouldn't allow any new data sources either. I ended up deleting the Program Files SQL directories, the registry entries (for DTS, SQL Server, anything else that was installed with it), etc. but still no go. I'm a unix admin so this is rarely touched territory for me. What I ended up doing was exporting the database (luckily it's not yet in production) via third party tool (Navicat) to individual table MS Access databases, and then importing those via the DTS tool into MS SQL Server. I just have to wait now for the programmer to convert the site.

Thanks anyways.Big Smile

DTSing Oracle data into SQL Server

I need to import some data from Oracle into Sql Server.
I've installed the Oracle's OleDB provider (OraOLEDB_92020.exe).
Do I need to install anything else on the SQL Server so that I can import the data?

I don't think so|||linked server|||I've tried just installing the OleDb provider but it appears from furthering reading on the web that I need to install the oracle client tools aswell as the OleDb provider.

I've been told that we are running Oracle 10.7 and I can not appear to find the client tools for this on Oracle's website.

Does anyone know where the client tools for this version of Oracle are?

Cheers

DTS Viewer for SQL 2k5

I d/l and installed the DTS Viewer/editor for SQL 2k, but I can't find how to open it up to edit any of my packages. There is no menu option for it, and I can't find a menu option in either the BI or Server Management programs.

Thanks in advance for the simple answer.

You should be able to find your packages under Management, Legacy, Data Transformation Services. Right click to edit the packages.|||

In the Management studio go to Management>Legacy>Data Transformation Services If you have imported them into your server you'll see them there or if you want to just open one from a .dts file you can do it with a right click. If you have the backwards compatiblity package installed you can edit the package.

DTS to Lotus notes

DTS to Lotus notes

I must import/export some data from SQL Server to Lotus Notes.
I downloaded and installed NotesSQL ODBC drivers.
I met no problem importing from a Lotus Notes view to an SQL Server table: I used DTS and everything succeded.
But I can't do the reverse process (exporting from SQL Server to Lotus Notes): DTS keeps on giving an error without description and it fails.
Does anybody know how to export a table or a view from SQL Server to Lotus Notes using DTS?

Thanks in advance. Are you trying to setup a daily process, or is it a 1 time thing?

Do you have Notespump or Notestrix?

And as much as they protest, Lotus Notes is NOT a database...

Sorry...I got carried away...

And what do you mean...are you trying 2 way replication?|||Originally posted by Brett Kaiser

Thanks for the reply. This would be a weekly process that I would like to setup and schedule via DTS. I would agree that notes is not a database by definition. I would just like to automate this if possible. It is a very small dataset based on an SQL query. Do I have a bad version of NotesSQL that only works one way?! I don't have Notespump or Notestrix. Wouldn't those apps be a bit overkill? Thanks! - JB|||I haven't done this...but I'm going to try it...got a link for the driver?

The site is: www.lotus.com/notessql

The owner of the DB has given me read/write
permission on the DB. Each time DTS attempts
to read or write to the .nsf, I am prompted for
my lotus notes password and it is accepted.|||Still looking

Found this

Does it have to be installed on the server, or can it be installed on the client?

I guess where ever DTS is running, no?|||Originally posted by Brett Kaiser

Yes. I think you would want to install it on the server. You will then be permitted to setup an odbc connection there to an nsf file.|||You can install on the client...just did it...

Bam shows up in my source selection list...

Now I gotta find a notes server to link to...

Did you see the user manual after the install?|||I've reviewed the "help" html doc a bit. It seems to talk more about extracting data to another DB.|||The site is: www.lotus.com/notessql

Don't want this to happen every time? Go into your registry under HKLM->Software->ODBC->ODBC.INI, then find the entry for your connection. Add a new string called SuppressUID and set it to 1. You won't get prompted anymore. You do have to do this for all of your Notes connections though.
